Meet Our Founder

Nayantara has trained for some years in Hindustani vocal music under teachers, Dr. Revati Kamat and Dr. Ankita Deole. She is a health and fitness enthusiast, and has spent a majority of her life cross-training under various personal trainers, sports coaches, yoga teachers and physiotherapists. She is also an avid reader, and has started “The Dancer’s Book Club”, an online book sharing group for dance-lovers. She graduated with a degree in Economics and a diploma in Liberal Arts, both from Symbiosis College in 2009. She is now settled with her husband and their son in Singapore, from where she manages Tridhara and takes classes remotely. She enthusiastically travels to India multiple times a year, for Tridhara’s many events and student intensives, besides her own performances and workshops.

As a Disciple
Nayantara Parpia began her training at the tender age of 7 under the tutelage of renowned Kathak and Odissi exponent, Smt. Yogini Gandhi, in Pune. She later went on to pursue Kathak under the guidance of the late maestro, Padma Vibhushan Pandit Birju Maharaj ji, in New Delhi. With deep gratitude for her gurus’ blessings, she always says, “It is Yogini didi who gave me my roots, and Maharaj ji who gave me my wings.”
Over the years, Nayantara’s curiosity and love for the arts have brought her in contact with stalwarts in the field, such as Kumudini Lakhia, Aditi Mangaldas, Durga Arya, Parwati Dutta, Prerna Shrimali, Rajendra Gangani, Shama Bhate, Maneesha Sathe, Mamta Maharaj, Bragha Bessell, and more, each of whom have broadened her perspective on classical dance and ignited her search for a well-balanced pedagogy that is befitting for the current generation.

As an Educator
Although Nayantara has been teaching Kathak from a very young age, it was in 2017 that she formally established the “Tridhara Institute of Kathak” in Pune, where our main studio is still located. Inspired by the multi-faceted nature of Indian classical dance, Nayantara has worked hard to develop, and continues to develop, a unique curriculum and philosophy that molds today’s students not only into good dancers but also complete artists and cultural ambassadors.
